Study Abroad in Germany

Summary

This program is for graduate students. In this program you may enroll in regular university courses or conduct research in collaboration with a host university faculty member; most classroom instruction is in German. Georg-August University (GAU) offers a broad range of courses in the social sciences, humanities, and sciences, and is one of only nine German universities awarded the status of “elite” institutions of higher education.

Graduate students attend classes with German and international students.

Fall semester: early August to early February/March
Spring semester: early April to mid-late July
Academic year: early August to mid-late July

Fall program participants will miss the UC winter quarter (or UC spring semester for Berkeley or Merced) due to the German academic calendar.

You may take courses and conduct research in most academic disciplines.

Independent study projects, supervised by a GAU faculty member, are available in many fields.

Units

You are required to take a full-time course of study while abroad.

Units are determined by your graduate advisor based on the Graduate Student Agreement.

Housing

You may live in a university residence hall with German students, international students, and UC students.

On-site Support

EAP students are supported by UC’s network of EAP offices at every UC campus and partnerships with EAP host universities throughout the world. UC faculty and local staff abroad help students integrate into the culture of their host country and provide assistance with academics, housing, safety, and other issues.
