Summer: mid-June to early August

Qualified summer students may extend their EAP participation to the fall semester or academic year at Yonsei University.

Academic Focus

General curriculum. Students may take Korean language classes at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels, and/or choose two to three courses taught in English on a wide variety of subjects, including Asian and Korean history, culture, literature, business, economics, society, and politics.

Use the following resources to learn about EAP courses:

  • Subject Area Chart to find general areas of study.
  • MyEAP Course Catalog to search for courses previously taken by UC students.
Additional courses may be available at host institutions or program locations and not all courses may still be offered. Since courses in new programs have not yet been taken for credit, they may not appear in the MyEAP Course Catalog.
  • Host institution online catalogs or course listings:

In the MyEAP Course Catalog, summer courses are listed separately from semester courses and are designated by an “S” suffix on the course number.

Language of Instruction

English and Korean (language classes)

Language Study

Korean language study is strongly recommended but is not required if you are enrolled in the summer program only.

Internships, Research, and Independent Study

Internships or independent study for academic credit may be possible in this program. Arrangements are generally made after arrival at the host institution. Predeparture preparation may be required.

Units

You are required to take a full-time course of study while abroad; 9 to 13.5 UC quarter units are required, which is two or three courses. If you receive financial aid, you may be required to take 13.5 UC quarter units as a requirement for UC summer funding; see your campus Financial Aid Office for details.

Housing

EAP students reside on campus in dormitories or off campus in apartments and share rooms with other exchange students. Students also have the option to make independent housing arrangements. Homestays are offered through Yonsei University.

On-site Support

EAP students are supported by UC’s network of EAP offices at every UC campus and partnerships with EAP host universities throughout the world. UC faculty and local staff abroad help students integrate into the culture of their host country and provide assistance with academics, housing, safety, and other issues.
