In an Emergency
In case of emergency, students should return to their place of residence and
await information from the Study Centre. The Study Centre will contact each
student concerned, with information or instructions. We will also send out an
email to all students, detailing the situation.
Maintaining
contact with the Study Centre in Emergencies
Please make sure we have your contact information - Send your current
telephone number, cell phone number, email address, and UK/ Irish residential
address to the Study Centre. Remember to update your contact information with
the Study Centre if any of your details change during the year.
We will give you information to enable you to register with the United
States Embassy in the UK/I, it is your responsibility to ensure that you do this.
What to do in a local or national emergency:
- Follow the
emergency plans of your host university
- Maintain contact with your host
International Office and follow their instructions
- Receive
instructions from our Study Centre, via the method described
above
- If you do not receive information
from the Study Centre in a timely manner, or you are travelling at the
time of an emergency, contact us. If we are not
available, then contact one of the other two UK/I Study Centres in order
to inform us of your whereabouts and receive further instructions (their
contact details are on the UC Contact Information Card that we hand out to
each of you at Orientation, as well as below)
Personal contingency planning:
- Keep some cash and/or
traveller's checks on hand, in a safe place, for emergencies.
- Have an adequate supply of prescriptions
drugs if you are on medication
- Carry emergency
contact phone numbers with you (including the UC Contact
Information Card that we gave to you at Orientation)
- Notify us whenever you
leave your host university for more than 24 hours. You can do this online
by using the Study Center Sign Out Form. Tell us how you can be reached if there is an
emergency while you are travelling
Counseling Services:
